A BRIEF HISTORY

In September 2002, a Girls Only Football Coaching Centre was established at Timperley Sports Club on Wednesday night 5 to 6pm. Girls aged 7 to 11 year old ( School Years 3-6 ) attended from 4 different Trafford Primary Schools. By January 2003 we had a steady 25 players attending, a big thank-you to Mrs Carol at Stamford Park Junior School as 16 of the players came from the School.

Within 12 months Unicorn Athletic Girls had 3 teams in the South Manchester Girls Football league: Under 10s Crystals, & two Under 12s, Sapphires & Diamonds. The teams & players were developing quickly at times quicker than we could organize. Thankfully 4 Mums came to our rescue & in April 2004 all 4 qualified as Level I Coaches, suddenly we started as teams becoming more aware technically & tactically in our games.

 

In September 2004 Unicorn Athletic & all involved had defiantly put Girls Football on the map. With now 45 girls registered & 4 teams from Under 10s to Under 14s we were starting to make an impact on the results in the league & local competitions.

The Under 10s Emeralds: Won the cup final & 2nd in the league, Under 11s Crystals: made the cup final & 2nd in the league. The Under 12s Sapphires & 14s Diamonds had excellent seasons, U 14's Diamonds winning the Urmston Meds Tournament in May.

Just to cap off the Season the Girls entered the Altrincham Festival on a Carnival float & won Best Newcomer. Follow that !!!!!

We had heard that Girls football was one of the fastest growing sports. This was certainly the case for us. In September 2005 we entered the League with 6 Teams 72 players.

Unicorn Athletic Girls are a thriving Girls Football Club established, with six teams in the South Manchester Girls Football League. Many thanks to all our parents, friends, relatives & supporters throughout the season, rain hail or shine.
