Football Foundation Press Release 20/10/04

CHESHIRE TEAM NET FOOTBALL CASH

The Cheshire village of Timperley is the latest recipient of funding from the UKs largest sports charity, the Football Foundation. The Foundation has provided Unicorn Athletic JFC with a massive £60,240 grant to revamp their changing rooms at the Smiths Field ground.

The grant will allow the complete upgrading and extension of the dilapidated pavilion and replace the clubs current changing facilities - two old shipping containers. Unicorn are expecting over 100 new players to join the club once work is complete, particularly girls, women and junior players.

Unicorn Chairman, Darren Storey, was delighted with the grant "With the help of the Football Foundation we will have facilities our existing and new players can be proud of as we provide grass roots football for our community".

Funded by the FA Premier League, the Football Association, Sport England and the Government, the Football Foundation is dedicated to revitalising the grass roots of the game, constructing modern football facilities, developing football as a force for social cohesion and as a vehicle for education in communities.

Football Foundation Chief Executive, Peter Lee, welcomed the latest boost for grass roots football in Cheshire.

"A vibrant grass roots is essential for the future of the game and I congratulate Unicorn Athletic Juniors for their ambition to open their club up to the wider community, providing opportunities for more players of all ages and abilities to play the game".
